Interviews with Refusal

One of the major questions in pragmatic research is why learners are hesitant to adhere to the pragmatic norms of native speakers. The interviewees expressed their concern about the social pressures or penalties they might face if their local social norms were violated. They were concerned that their native interlocutors might perceive them as "foreignersand believe that they are ignorant. This concern was similar in nature to the concerns expressed by Brown (2013) and Ishihara (2009).

These findings suggest that native-speakers pragmatic norms aren't the norm for Korean learners. They could still be useful as a model for official Korean proficiency tests. Future researchers should consider reassessing the usefulness of these tests in various contexts and in particular situations. This will help them better comprehend how different environments can affect the pragmatic behavior of learners in the classroom and beyond.
