A robot vacuum will keep floors clean smart robot enough to decrease the frequency at which you have to manually vacuum. Choose one that has an easy navigation, can sweep corners and stairs and also has a large dust bin that requires emptying only periodically.

1. iRobot Roomba i3+ EVO

The i3+ EVO and its sibling, the i3 EVO, are identical robots, but they differ in that the i3+ comes with self-emptying features. This makes the i3+ a good option for those who want a hands-off, fully automated cleaning experience, but don't mind manually emptying their robot's dustbin when it is full.

Both robots excel at picking up surface debris off carpets and hard floors and they are very good in moving around furniture and other obstacles. iAdapt navigation software makes smart maps of your home, which help the i3+ EVO to navigate and clean in a way that maximizes efficiency. The i3+ doesn't have the same obstacle avoidance capabilities as the i7+ or other top-rated robots that we test. It could be stuck on power cords and socks, and may have trouble navigating between surfaces, such as carpet and hardwood.

iRobot recommends you clear out areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, and include putting away any clutter or toys it may encounter. You should also keep the filters and dust bin clean to prevent them from becoming clogged. When the i3+ EVO's internal bin is empty or the battery is low it returns to the docking station, and it automatically empties the dirt into the station’s external dustbin. It then continues cleaning from where it began. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for about an hour and a half continuous use, and it takes around three hours to fully recharge.

2. Roomba from iRobot

The iRobot i7+ is an excellent model from iRobot's flagship line and comes with the latest technology. It's self-charging, self-navigating, and the most crucial feature of all -- it has an auto-emptying dustbin, which eliminates one of the most important sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba i7+ can remember up to 10 floor robot plans and their names thanks to Imprint Smart Mapping, which allows it to identify rooms to clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with the iRobot Home app to let you schedule cleaning jobs and direct your robot by voice or via the app.

In our tests the i7+ performed more agile and faster than our second-placed model and the eufy RoboVac G30, and it picked up large pieces of pet hair from all surface types, including carpeting. The biggest benefit over the eufy, though the dust bin is self-emptying, which removes a major source of maintenance and reduces the amount of time spent cleaning.

We were also impressed by the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot to start or stop cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room and even vacuum a specific area. The process of connecting the i7+ to these services was simple and straightforward using the iRobot Home app. After being connected, to voice commands to the i7+, for example "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The iRobot Home app also provides options to manage the i7+'s preferences and monitoring its performance.

3. Dyson Cyclone V10

In a world filled with vacuums with cords that look like minivans or buses, this tiny Dyson model feels like an old-fashioned sports car. It has the power and features to replace a stand-up vacuum in most households however, it can also fit in well next to the coffee table or the bookshelf, where you can wave it around like the magic device.

The V10 is powered by a 7-cell energy-dense lithium-ion battery that produces energy that is not faded for 60 minutes. Its advanced whole-machine filtration system removes allergens, and then releases clean air back into your home. The cleaning head is specially designed to drive stiff nylon bristles deep into carpet to suck up large particles and fine dust. It has three suction modes to match the task being performed. It is able to swiftly switch from handheld to floor automatic vacuum cleaners, and vice versa.

The model also comes with docks that charge to 100% in 3.5 hours and offers easy access to two attachments as well as a clip for a wand. This is a big improvement over the older Dysons, that require a long charge and are difficult to store.

The biggest issue with the V10 is its short run time. The tests conducted by CR show that its marketing claims of up to 60 minutes are not true. One of iRobot's most adored robot vacuums, the 694 is a basic model that's a good option for those who don't want to invest too much on a robotic. It was able to remove most types of debris in our testing and often went over the same area several times to give an efficient clean. Its flat front allows it to reach the corners and edges of walls.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to steer clear of obstacles and navigate your home. However, it isn't equipped with the mapping capabilities of more advanced models, like our top robot vacuum cleaner picks, i3+EVO and j7+ Series. It is prone to getting stuck on phone cords or low furniture and often runs out of power before returning to its base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways over the Roomba 694, as it has fewer parts that require regular cleaning, comes with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, has a lower recurring cost, is more sophisticated in its automation capabilities and is able to better maneuver itself. It also has a larger dustbin and is charged faster.

The sleek RoboVac X8 has a superior battery longevity than the Roomba 694. It also has physical boundaries and can be controlled with your smartphone's voice assistant. It's also more robust, has a more powerful motor, and performs better on floors with bare or low-pile.

5. Samsung Jet Bot AI+

Samsung is a name you see on all sorts of electronic gadgets for your home, so it comes as no surprise that they're also one of the most reputable mop and robot vacuum manufacturers. Jet Bot AI+ has the most advanced onboard technology to navigate and avoid obstacles.

The app offers a variety of options to customize your robotic vacuums cleaner, including virtual barriers, mopping water levels and behavior customization docking frequency settings and more. The app is simple to learn and use similar to other Samsung devices.

In our testing our tests, the Jet Bot AI+ excelled on hard floors and dealt with dog hair (on carpet) very well, picking up 86 percent of it. It did not do well in avoiding taller items such as cords or socks. This was disappointing. It's also a bit more expensive than some of the other models we've tested, which might be a deal-breaker for certain shoppers.
